What is State Council?
The State Council of Education is CTA’s policy-making body. Meeting four times a year, the council’s nearly 800 delegates elect the three state-level CTA officers and the CTA Board of Directors. Council also sets forth CTA policy, develops legislation, and makes recommendations in general elections.
What are the Duties of a State Council Representative?
State Council delegates regularly attend all four meetings of the State Council of Education, participate actively in the work of committees to which they are assigned, become informed on professional and educational matters in the chapters represented and make appropriate presentations of recommendations originating in the chapters. Delegates report regularly to their chapters regarding the deliberations and actions of the State Council of Education and attend and participate in the meetings and activities of the Service Center Council of which their chapters is a part.
How many meetings?
There are four State Council meetings per year. For the 24/25 school year those dates are: October 18-20, 2024, January 24-26, 2025, April 4-6, 2025, June 6-8, 2025. These meetings take place at the Westin Bonaventure in Downtown Los Angeles. Transportation, one-half of the room rate and expenses for meals not provided will be reimbursed. Typically, folks fly down after school on Friday and fly back after Council adjourns on Sunday (typically no later than 4pm). No release time is provided for State Council meetings.
As part of the preparation process for the 2024-2025 State Council year, the CTA Elections and Credentials Committee will conduct an election to fill vacancies for Multiple Electoral, District Q, and Alternate seats.
Declaration of Candidacy forms are due no later than 4 p.m., August 23, 2024 and can only be filed using the forms below:
